#breakfreefromplastic
#breakfreefromplastic is a global movement envisioning a future free from plastic pollution. Since its launch in September 2016, over 1,060 groups from across the world have joined the movement to demand massive reductions in single-use plastics and to push for lasting solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. These organizations share the common values of environmental protection and social justice, which guide their work at the community level and represent a global, unified vision.

MARINE LITTER SOLUTIONS
Around the world, the plastics industry is engaged in purposeful, collaborative work to help end ocean pollution. We believe in integrated approaches for managing plastics resources that allow us to enjoy their benefits, without trashing our oceans.
Since the Joint Declaration was created in 2011, a total of 69 associations in 35 countries* have voluntarily pledged their commitment to the principals and proactive marine litter solutions outlined in the declaration.

NABU - Naturschutzbund Deutschland
In order to counteract the garbage problem on our own doorstep, NABU launched the project in 2010 "Seas without plastic"Started. In it, the NABU develops information materials for and with fishermen and water sports enthusiasts. We organize cleaning actions on beaches and riverbanks and support environmental monitoring on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts.
The NABU is German partner of the "Rethink Plastic" alliance , which is, so to speak, the European arm of the #breakfreefromplastic movement (see above). This
has identified four key issues to tackle the problem of plastic in the short term.
  • Stricter reduction rules for single-use applications such as to-go and disposable plastic bottles (similar to those for single-use plastic carrier bags in the EU Packaging Directive) that are often found in nature.
  1. In order to reduce primary (eg pellets in hygiene products) and secondary (degradation of large into small plastic particles) microplastics as well as superfluous synthetic polymers, a separate EU legislation has to be created. The problem here also lies in the plastic, rubber and fiber abrasion of textiles as well as the additives of washing, cleaning, cleaning and cosmetic articles.
  1. Policies for the (separated) collection, reuse, remanufacturing and recycling of plastics must be optimized in terms of waste hierarchy and high-quality recycling and should include regulations for bio-based plastics. For this we need a strict regulatory law beyond the Packaging Act and the Industrial Waste Ordinance for other plastic-containing products and wastes as well as high ecological standards in the future circular economy package of the EU. The latter is intended to set recycling rates and separate collection obligations for all municipal waste for all member states.
  1. Biodegradability of plastics is not a universal solution for plastics pollution. It has to be used as a solution for special, clearly defined applications.

Rethink Plastic
Rethink Plastic is an alliance of leading European NGOs with one common aim: a future that is free from plastic pollution. We represent hundreds of thousands of active groups, supporters and citizens in every EU Member State. We bring together policy and technical expertise from a variety of relevant fields and are part of the global Break Free From Plastic movement, consisting of over 800 NGOs and millions of citizens worldwide.
SAVE THE ALBATROSS COALITION
The Save the Albatross Coalition  (SAC) is a bootstrap campaign dedicated to stopping the tide of single-use disposal items polluting our oceans and killing our wildlife – in particular the iconic Pacific Albatross.
